Jeff Jakus decided to enter his software company (Better Results, Inc.) into the winery software business in 2002 in order to diversify what was then a business that specialized in the public sector and was subject to the whims of congress, HUD budgets and the like.

Noticing that the area of Wine Club Management appeared to be lacking in organized automation led Jeff to set out on the initial mission of making a better wine club mouse trap.

Once the initial specification was laid out, Jeff and a group of thirsty friends went to the closest wine region (in our case it was Temecula) and started asking questions of winery owners, wine makers, tasting room managers and anyone else that would listen.

What resulted was the creation of a technology leading product named "Just My Wine" that launcehd in 2004. While the vision was Jeff's, the actual programming team included 17 offshore programmers headed up by a very talented partner named Brian Riedlinger.

From this team we brought to market an exceptional Wine Club management product and an even more exceptional Point of Sale system aimed at the winery tasting room. Both of these products are in use today, although they are not actively marketed. The decision was made a few years ago that Better Results was just not built right to offer proper techical support to the spread out and widely diverse winery industry. Today, Modular Information Systems handles the support activity for the Just My Wine customer base.

What did we learn from this experience? Well, the answer is simple. We learned that we were really good at listening to the market and even better at putting the market needs into action through superior software products.

Today, Jeff Jakus is sharing the knowledge gleaned from close to 10 years in the direct-to-consumer sales and marketing arena focused on the wine and winery markets.
